Zara - Somerset

This beautiful girl is Zara who will be 2 years old in September, she is not spayed.

Zara was rescued by her current owner when she was just 11 months old after she had a bad start to her life. As a puppy, she was kept in a dog cage that was too small for her and consequently she had to lie down most of the time. Food and water were kept outside and she was let out to drink and eat then replaced int he cage. The present owners felt that Zara was not being cared for properly so rescue her to give her the life she so deserves.

When they brought her home she was undernourished and she had problems with her front paws. After a visit to the vet, it appears that at some stage she had suffered trauma which was left untreated. The vet did x rays and found that this had resulted in muscle fibres in her right shoulder breaking down - the vet advised that this would never come back. She is not in any pain or on medication, she only has a slight limp on her front right leg.

The problems in her current home arose when the owner moved into her partners family farmhouse where there also lives a Malamute and elderly Spaniel. Zara and the Malamute do not get on and have to be kept apart which is proving very difficult in this environment.

Zara is shut away alone for very long periods in an L-shaped corridor with concrete floor and only a very small window which lets minimal light into the room and s quite depressing for poor Zara. She is walked but the owner works so Zara is kept locked up most of the day and night. It is the Malamute that is causing the aggression.

Because she is kept locked up alone for so long when she gets out she goes a little over the top - jumping and pulling because she is so excited. She is very friendly but overpowering plus she has never had any training. She eventually calms down, she has never been off lead.

She has shown anxiety over heavy lorries and buses when out being walked and she doesn't like the vet and growled last time.

The present owner doesn't know how she would react to other dogs as she never meets any so we think a home without another dog or one with a laid back neutered male.

She took treats gently from our volunteer, she likes people.

Zara needs to be removed from her concrete prison so that she can quickly learn to enjoy the life that she so deserves.

Can you offer Zara her forever home?
