Wyatt is a worry.
He is a good looking, sweet natured, trained dog who well well on the lead, has good recall and is totally uninterested in and non aggressive towards other dogs.
So why is he a worry to rehome?
Well, Wyatt has become overbonded with his present owner. They clearly think the world of each other. Sadly, she has serious health issues and tells us that she is 'living on borrowed time'. She wants the best for her boy and feels that, as he is a young dog, he should be rehomed where he has a chance to live out the rest of his life in a more active household.
Our first reaction was to say that this would be too traumatic for Wyatt. When our assessor walked him with a family member he froze in terror, when she was simply handed the lead. There is no way that a stranger could handle this boy safely.
His family do say that he can learn to relate to other people. They would do everything that they could to facilitate this and allow Wyatt the chance of another life. If someone were prepared to visit the house a few times and form a bond with him then this might be possible. But it would take this kind of long term commitment and patience for it to work.
It is completely against our protocols for an owner and a prospective adopter to meet but, on this occasion, we see this as the only way forward for Wyatt.
Would you go the extra mile to save this boy?
