Ben - West Yorkshire

Ben - West Yorkshire
Box of tissues handy? This is Ben, a GSD X Lab(?), who was rescued from Germany. He has Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which means he is now almost, if not totally blind, but is learning to navigate by scent, sound and familiarity, although he occasionally bumps into things. When out, on a long line, his owner helps him get around by using commands and this works successfully. His recall is excellent even when there are distractions. His condition means that he can be startled by events and can become fearful. Recently, while out, a child inadvertently cornered him, resulting in Ben biting her purely out of fear, following which a restraining order has been placed on him. However, he is NOT an aggressive dog. Ben's owner is worried that her 2-year old daughter, who does not understand, might be at risk (Ben is fine with the other, older daughter) and so has, very reluctantly, decided to seek a new home for Ben. He will need a special, understanding and patient owner (no moving furniture around every few weeks!). There is then no reason why Ben will not lead a happy, virtually normal life
