REX - WEST SUSSEX

Rex was rescued 6 years ago from the life of hell.... grossly underweight and scared he was taken in by a family who nurtured him back to health and gave him a loving family. Sadly as his owners have aged Rex hasn't. He still pulls like a train on the lead and a dog comes face to face with him he is not happy. His owner was pulled over and now feels that he can no longer keep Rex.

The volunteer who went to visit Rex today said that he is the loveliest boy with the fewest issues that she has seen whilst voluteering for our rescue. When the volunteer arrived and rang the doorbell she heard Rex bark but when she entered she was greeted by a friendly boy. He was told to go to his bed and he did as he was told.

Going out for a walk the volunteer felt Rex was eager. He was asked to sit for his lead to be put on and he did. They walked to the park where as there were no other dogs he was let off lead. His recall was passable, when another dog came into the distance Rex looked but didn't make a move towards the other dog. He was called back sat and had his lead back on. He continued his sniffing. He really didn't want to go home. The volunteer feels that he is not walked that often The owners certainly won't take him out anymore and the son said he hadn't been out for a walk that day.  Rex has had 2 altercations with dogs over the last 6 years, on both occasions the dogs came into his space. In the village he is known as "The Aggressive Dog" . So sad for a dog that really ISN'T aggressive.

The volunteer feels that Rex needs an owner that will use the right equipment when walking Rex (not a flexi Lead) and have control of him. His obedience is good and as long as any adopter understands that Rex just doesn't like dogs in his face he cn certainly be worked with.

All his problems can be worked on and his obedience training should be continued to keep him out of trouble. Rex is not perfect but what rescue dog is. He is a lovely friendly boy and will make a wonderful addition to any family willing to out in some effort.
