This lovely boy is Travis who was 1 year old on 10th December 2019. He is still entire as he is a bit too young to be neutered
The owners have had Travis from 6 weeks of age and were told that the mother had died during labour and so he had been hand-reared!
He suffered an intussusception when he was 4 months old, he had an operation and is fine now.
When our volunteer arrived she knocked at the door and on entering Travis was barking quite loudly. He was quite vocal and all the time in the house he kept coming towards her barking. He would back off then come back.
There is an American Bulldog in the house which she could hear upstairs. Travis took treats gently from the owner and obeyed her commands to sit.
He engaged with the children following them around and playing with his toys.
The owner advised the volunteer that Travis is on Metacam at present. Having been to the vets for X Ray's on his hips the vet had advised her "it wasn't as bad as she thought" and that he didn't need an operation. She advised he was to walk for 10 minutes only twice daily. A suggestion of hydrotherapy to help was made by the vet but because of the families work schedule, they could not accommodate this. The owner says that he is not limping or showing any other signs of discomfort.
Travis is insured and this can be transferred to the new owner so any existing problems are covered.
Our volunteer took Travis out for a walk when he was quite strong being on a slip lead and figure-eight lead. She walked him and he was fine outside of the home. They passed some people and he took no notice. They passed a dog on the lead that he barked at. The owner advised that he hasn't seen many dogs lately due to having short walks.
On entering the house afterwards he was fine with our volunteer, coming to her when she spoke to him. It is obvious that he feels he needs to protect the home and family.
Travis has lived with an American Bulldog and all was fine until 6 weeks ago when they had a fight so now they have to be kept separated.
Travis is also not getting the attention and exercise that he needs because of his families work commitments.
His hip problems are not serious enough to warrant surgery and as long as the new owner is prepared to carry on with the insurance which we have checked is transferable, this will be covered.
Travis did not have a good start in life and his current home is not what is best for him.
Can you offer this lovely boy the home he deserves?
Travis enjoying Christmas.
