Tara - North Yorkshire
Tara is a nervous dog who lacks confidence and needs her new owner to be the leader so she feels secure and can relax. She doesn’t make a mess in the house and will let you know when she wants to go out by becoming restless and going to the door with you. When in the house she is happy to lie on a nice comfy dog bed and sleep. She is always very happy to see you when you appear and wags her tail and sometimes will jump up although she stops jumping up when told not to. She is quiet at night sleeping downstairs on a dog bed.

Tara can be protective over food as far as other dogs go but lets people move her bowl away when needed. Tara is initially not a dominant dog who knows how to bide her time and show submissive behaviours or be avoidant. However she isn’t willing to accept another dog dominating her.

When putting her lead on she flattens herself down as if scared; maybe in the past she may have been hit if getting excited at going out for walks? When out on walks she walks very well on a lead, no pulling, just lacking confidence. She has shown interest in other dogs but no outward aggression, allowing other dogs to sniff her. She has shown that she likes to chase things ie. squirrels and birds that come in the garden.

When feeling stressed she will try and tear her bedding which has only been a few times and will stop when told to. In the car she will travel and settle down on and off but again will tear things up when stressed (maybe have an old cover in there where it doesn’t matter if it got torn) we think this will calm down after more practice and the more settled she is. Tara isn’t keen on sudden noises at the moment but she is ok with household noises like washer, dryer. Will move away from hoover or hairdryer noise.

Tara is a sweetie who will bond very well when she begins to trust again with time and patience. She has won everyone around who meets her.
