This gorgeous boy is Tango has been with his owner since he was 8 weeks old.
He is a beautiful white GSD, who has obviously been well looked after, and who will be 6 years old at the end of July. He is vaccinated with next one due at end of June 2015. He is also microchipped
He was initially booked in at the vets to be neutered but his testicles had not descended, but the vet was confident that he could find them and deal with them. However, when the vet carried out the operation he said Tango had no testicles!
Two years ago his owner moved from their bungalow (which had a garden) and Tango now lives in a tiny 1 bedroom, first floor, flat. There is no garden. He is allowed in the small lounge and hallway only, not allowed in the kitchen or bedroom. So he has very little room to move around.
When our volunteer entered the flat, Tango was crated until she was seated and settled. Initially he barked but there was no growling or snarling. Once he had calmed down he was allowed out to meet me. He is a lovely friendly lad, and was calm, although he does get excited easily, he gave me a paw and took treats nicely.
On the lead he is quite strong, and our volunteer felt that his owner was not at all confident about walking him. The one dog they passed whilst out walking, he ignored, but his owner said that he does sometimes react to other dogs - depending on which dog he meets. He could do with some socialising and time spent on training. His recall is a bit hit and miss depending on what is going on around him. Apparently he did go to training classes when he was about a year to 18 months old. His owner says he is ok with cats as long as they are confident.
He loves travelling in the car, and likes going to the kennels to stay whilst his owner is on holiday. In fact his owner stated that he looks quite saddened when he has to come home to the flat again.
His health is generally very good, he had a few ear problems about 3 years ago and his owner now cleans his ears regularly to avoid any recurrence.
He has not had any contact with children. The only child he met (several years ago) was aged about 8, with whom he was fine.
His owner believes that Tango is very unhappy in his present environment with no garden, precious little room to move, and would be better off with in a rural environment where he can stretch his legs a bit and enjoy being outdoors. His owner works (two shifts a day of 3 hours each) and does not have a lot of time for walking/training.
Our volunteer found him to be a lovely dog and thinks he will make a fantastic addition to a family where they can spend some time retraining him, and dealing with his pulling on the lead & lack of socialisation.
His owner thinks that he would bond well with a male owner as he still misses her husband who sadd;y died and who Tango was very fond of and spent a lot of time with.
Tango is a lovely boy who just wants to be made a fuss of and enjoy company and nice walks.
