Summer has found herself back in kennels as adopters felt that they couldnt cope with her unpredictable behaviour within the home. She was fine and bonded really quickly with new owner but very wary and anxious around strangers, if she felt too "surrounded" she would growl and did in fact nip. Therefore going forward we would love Summer to find a quiet, possibly one owner home, somewhere they can let Summer relax and gently let her find her feet. Whilst in her adoptive home she enjoyed her long walks and wore a muzzle so that both owner and Summer could relax. With people and places she visited daily she was happy with people and didnt show any anxiety. Sadly it is strangers in the home that Summer is more wary of, it just requires an owner being aware of this and managing situation to allay Summers fears. Sadly she has now gone into commercial kennels where she has been as good as gold and showed no signs of anxiety and has enjoyed her walks and fuss from the kennel staff but we have to be mindful of her reaction as above.
Original observations from volunteer are as follows: Summer is a petite young lady, 2 years old, spayed, vac etc Looking for a new forever home as she is getting more and more anxious when daughters visitors come to the property as she has had months and months during lockdown not seeing anyone visit the house . Summer appeared to love her family including one child and we are told a very loving dog but again outside she isnt very confident and can react around other dogs, therefore going forward Summer will just need a confident owner to show her the ropes and calm any fears she has. Having said that she was very good meeting our volunteer, watched from a distance, slowly came over, took some treats and then happy to say hello and have a fuss. Summer is in excellent condition and a very attractive shepherd. Another girl who doesnt deserve to be a long time kennel dweller, lockdown and isolation wasnt her fault but the affects will now need to be undone and with such a clever girl it shouldnt take too long.
Our volunteer went to visit the kennels and played with Summer, who you can see from the photos has oodles of energy and loves to play and run free in the paddock. She desperately, like Rocco, wants a new home for herself, kennels for weeks on end isnt the long term answer.
