Ron-Sleaford

Needs a Foster Home or his Forever Home.

Ron was adopted on 7th February 2025 and returned on the 16th March 2025, six weeks later through no fault of his own.  Ron became reactive to visitors which was a problem to the new owners.  Our recommended guidelines were not followed, and he was taken out and about in the first one and a half weeks, visitors started to come to the home – and a visitor was allowed to go into Ron’s safe space when he was in his crate, and he barked and growled as was not happy.

Ron ideally, we feel now, would be happier in a rural setting where there will be less visitors, and Ron will have time to desensitise from his stay in kennels.

07/11/2024 – Due to a change in circumstances, Ron came into kennels in the North Kesteven area of Lincolnshire a couple of months ago, where he has settled in well

Ron has been walked out by the kennels GSDR volunteers and now walks nicely on a slip lead. He can be a nervous little fellow which is to be expected with his history but is friendly to people and non-reactive to any dogs he has met when out walking. Ron is fine with traffic, sometimes he does cower a little back if unsure. Ron loves a treat or two so should be easy to train.

Ron does have an umbilical hernia which will need treatment in the future, this may be possible at the same time he gets castrated, his foster carer informed that he does not mind you touching it.

Ron’s foster carer informed that Ron has a fantastic recall in the garden, you can clean his ears and trim his nails easily, the only thing he is not keen about is being brushed around his head. Ron’s foster carer has done Ron proud with her care and guidance.

We are looking for someone to Foster or adopt Ron, someone who can work on his socialisation. He needs someone who will take him out and about to enjoy life but will need an experienced owner capable of firm sympathetic training.

Ron would be happy to live with one or two doggy friends to play with, he has lived in foster with a large male GSD/Malamute cross and a female GSD/Belgian cross when in foster.

If you are interested in giving Ron a loving forever home, or foster home and can implement boundaries, please complete the Adoption Form, a home check will be required.

Ron’s History

Ron was rescued from a puppy mill at the age of 13 weeks old by a lady who could not continue with his care. Ron came to GSDR last summer 2024 and has been in a foster home since which has helped his confidence. He knows basic commands like watch me, sit, wait, quiet, leave and stay.

Ron is very intelligent and loyal, and wants to have company, for that reason he gets upset when left on his own, that is improving, especially when left with chews. The longest time he has been left is 4 hours.

The fosterer walked Ron on a Dogmatic, and he walks well on a loose lead until something grabs his attention, he is easily distracted by treats. Ron has also been on a couple of GSD socialization walks where he got on well.

Ron played with the foster’s two large dogs, one male and one female, so could live with another dog. Ron is housetrained and will let you know he wants to go out by nudging you with his nose. He can be boisterous, so we would not rehome him where there are young children

Ron does have an umbilical hernia which will need treatment in the future, possible when he gets castrated.
