This beautiful girl is 14 months old Sheba a Caucasian Ovcharka who was picked up by two volunteers at the end of April 2017. The girls were really upset about Sheba and were shocked to see how she had been living.
A GSDR volunteer had been to assess Sheba the week before, she said she was wary of her at the gate as she had never seen a Caucasian before but once inside was soon receiving lots of kisses and when she sat on the settee, Sheba tried to get on her knee for a cuddle.
At the time of assessment, Sheba was in the house of the owners' sister.
She seemed well bonded with this lady and Sheba wouldn’t go for a walk with our volunteer unless she came too.
Outside she was okay on the harness, they did see a cat and Sheba pulled like mad to get to it but no dogs were seen on the walk. However, once back home they put Sheba in the garden and let out one of three little dogs she lives with which was a JRT bitch.
Sheba just wanted to play but the JRT was scared as Sheba kept trying to put her big paws on her.
Sheba is used to this ladies young children.
When the volunteers arrived to collect Sheba however, she was padlocked into a tiny back garden on a housing estate a few doors away from where she had previously been assessed.
The old lady next door told them that the dog lived outside. Sometimes the owner didn't bother coming home and she was left out in the garden all on her own.
When he did come home he just opened the shed for her. Even during bad frosts, the poor dog was locked out the garden.
The old lady used to feed her, give her water and the neighbours would give her food from the chip shop - so she is a little chubby. What a terrible start to this girls life.
She is not spayed.
This is not the breed for everyone and they are better suited to rural homes with space. More information on the breed characteristics of Caucasian Shepherds.
This was how the volunteers found Sheba - padlocked behind this gate in a tiny gate with no shelter.
