Some info on Savvy from one of our volunteers who walks him at the kennels :
I so wish I could take this boy. Savvy is bored and gets so excited to go out....his little eyes light up when he sees me. I think he needs to go to an active family. He shows no aggression to people or dogs and just wants to play. He needs a loving home with somebody who will give him clear boundaries with regards to his manners. I was teaching both him "gentle' and by the end of it, he was gently taking a treat from my hand. He does have a silly habit of nipping you when he's going out for walk, this lasts a few minutes and we're working on re directing this behaviour. It doesn't help being in a kennel environment. He does not like being told off, so firm consistent "no's" will do the trick.
He loves nothing better than rolling in the grass having his tummy tickled. He has never been phased by our volunteers young girls, but due to him nipping as above then we would prefer a knowledgeable home without children.
Savvy has had a rotten deal, his owner died in the new year, he was rehomed with his best pal and they both came back into kennels couple month later due to new owner becoming ill. Adopted again and back in kennels as Savvy nipped a visitor who decided to encroach on his space over child gate when already told not too. So once again game over and both ended back in kennels. His pal has since been adopted, but poor Savvy is still waiting for his special home.
He will give a lot of love to some lucky person, but like I've mentioned he does nip you first get him out of kennel. Maybe in an environment where he is not craving attention and exercise that will stop. He does love chasing a ball and water and enjoys cuddling and brushing.
BACKGROUND:
They came to us originally as an emergency in January, their owner had died and the two dogs were found inside the home having been alone with her for about a week, sadly the family weren't able to give us any background information other than the dogs were much loved by their owner. In kennels with GSDR they were seen as very attached to each other and Sara definitely needs Savvy by her side. They were strong to walk and for ease they were exercised loose in a large paddock where they were fantastic with each other and had good recall. They were adopted but now their life is in turmoil again. Savvy is an excitable big boy who nipped a visiting social workers arm and now their mum and dad are in a position that they had to put this beautiful pair into emergency kennels otherwise they could potentially have lost their foster children.
This is so very heart breaking for them and something they had no control over. This is a terrible dilemma for all involved and we are also heart broken knowing the trauma they have already been through.
PLEASE IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE GET IN TOUCH , this pair really do need a break after what they have already been through and all they really need is a kind, patient home, preferably with land where the dogs would quite happily run free and play and definitely keep each other happy.
