Roxy - North Yorks

Roxy is the more confident of the two, she is a typical young shep, quite headstrong and boisterous but lovely with it.

She was quite giddy when I was there and bounced around a lot but she did calm down and sit, would stay on her bed for a while before wanting to come up and sniff around me. She was very friendly after an initial bark from inside her crate, but once out she wanted fuss and was curious, checking me out, giving me her paw etc.

Out on the lead she was a little excitable, barking quite a lot at another dog going by, it was not an aggressive bark but she wanted to approach the dog and wasn’t impressed that I would not let her. We did manage to get past and walked along the lane for a little while before she decided she wanted to go back. Roxy is quite bonded with her current owner and was a little anxious being out without her.

She can be possessive with bones and some toys, this is not directed at humans, items can be taken from her, but if her sibling approaches when she has food or a toy, she will issue a warning growl if she gets too close.

She would need an experienced shepherd owner to continue her training and to calm her down in situations where she has decided she knows best (i.e. wanting to approach other dogs).

Her recall is ok, although she can come back in her time if there is something more important to her than her human at some point.

She needs to be allowed to have a good, free run to let off steam regularly. She loves to play with a ball, bringing it back to be launched again and again. In the garden she will happily play-fight with her sister but it is clear that she is the dominant sibling.

She would probably be best rehomed away from her sister, where she can learn to control her dominance and flourish as a loyal, lively young girl. She would do well with a calm, older shep, that could show her how to relax and enjoy herself without needing to take control. If Elsie and Roxy were rehomed together they would need to go to experienced owners.

I would suggest rehoming with older children as she is very lively and could easily knock smaller children over, but she has interacted with babies and has been very gentle and protective.

She is quite an independent girl, she does like a cuddle but it’s strictly on her terms and she’ll tootle off when she’s had enough.

Roxy is a lovely, lively girl that needs rehoming due to her current owner’s medical issues. She will be a great addition to someone’s family with the correct guidance and a little bit of discipline. She is also a really pretty girl.
