UPDATE: Rocco was originally in SW Region with the write up below, he quickly found a new home but sadly he didnt settle and rather than the new adopter give him time and patience he insisted Rocco was collected immediately. He then went to the NW Region into commercial kennels where as you can imagine he was bewildered but enjoyed his walks and play time with the kennel owner, in the kennel initially he would barge the door to try and get attention but again this stopped after a few days. After 10 days we thought a couple with over 30 years experience of shepherds would be ideal to get rocco back on track and they took him home but again although he didnt settle initially he did bond immediately with the husband and virtually ignored his wife. He did the same barging of the doors if they were closed, so at night he was allowed to sleep on the landing, which he did quite peacefully. However Rocco is a big lad and even with a dogmatic head collar his reaction when seeing small dogs was beyond their capability and once again he has been returned to kennels. This lad is big, he is strong, he bonds very quickly with the male of the household, he will need time and patience to settle, he needs a pack leader, we are sure he will make one cracking dog. Hopefully there is the right home for him. Our volunteer went to meet him May 18th and said no photograph will ever do him justice he is a beautiful boy who was happy to say hello, take treats and play with his kong. However he has been in kennels for several weeks now and loves his runs out in the paddock but it isnt a home and Rocco doesnt like being like being a caged boy he wants to be with you!
Rocco is a beautiful Black and Tan long coat male who is sadly looking for a new home due to being frightened and anxious of the new baby whose now toddling
He’s 3 years old and currently not neutered
Rocco knows all his commands and his recall is excellent
He is fully housetrained
Rocco is a typical shepherd in he will bark when somebody comes to the door but quickly calms down
He is used to being left for 4hrs without any issues and is good in the car
Rocco doesn’t like cats but doesn’t show any interest to livestock
Rocco needs an Alpha in his life where the male in the home is at the top of the pack, he is wonderful with the male and is fantastic with him when out on the lead but he doesn’t listen so much to the lady of the house and outside with her he’s reactive to other dogs, our volunteer went for a walk with the man of the home and Rocco was really good so with that in mind Rocco would benefit the following
A male in the home who has had GSD’s before and understands how they behave and what theirs needs are
A home where there are no little children but visiting children over 8 is ok
A home that Rocco doesn’t need to be the boss and the protector
No small furries
