Riva is 3 yr old Gsd x Malinois, sadly up for adoption again but this is through no fault of her own.
Riva is a energetic and very clever dog. On first meeting her she can be protective of her family, but handler just needs to be firm and tell her no, then she’s fine. She’s been living with 2 male GSD’s and a cat.
She’s currently in a foster home although we are very keen for her to go to a new home asap just so she doesn’t get settled again and then have to move on. However, it has to be the right home, as already mentioned she can be protective of her family so she must not be put in a position where she feels as though she has to. Several meets would be the way forward prior to her being adopted.
Once Riva is settled into a home she just wants to please and is full of affection and encourages you to be the same. This is what her previous dad had to say :
We did 3 meet and greets and then we decided it was time for her to come home with me. On lead, walk to back of car, sat whilst I opened the boot and cage, jumped straight in, and settled. She already had a meet my two GSD's at her foster home, now to meet them on their home turf, out from the car, straight through the door and into the home, face to face with the other two, happy to see them and started to play fight. She then met the family cat, got spat at and threatened with a paw, backed off and a truce was called !
Next move was to a dog parlour, she had the works and not an ounce of resistance. Feeding time for the first time, she ate in the same room, kitchen same as the other two, and from that point on no problem, so no food guarding. First night she spent on the sofa. Second she snuck onto my bed and snuggled in ! She was at home and chilled out. First day out on exercise, she was on a 40 mtr lead, and behaved perfectly with the other two dogs. Eventually after using the 40 mtr lead and having complete confidence in her I unclipped her lead, perfect recall, and definitely ball driven, great retrieve and drop then ready to go again.
Riva is looking for a active, confident home, she’s not the type of dog that would put up with a trip to the local park and she also needs the mental stimulation, so some form of work wouldn’t go a miss, if you fancy obedience, trials, search and rescue, the list is endless. If you have the home that Riva is looking for then please get in touch.
