Ozzy

Meet the fabulous 13-month-old puppy who we have named Ozzy as he was not responding to his registered name. He came to rescue via the pound where he had been handed in as a stray.

He is now looking for an urgent foster or adoption through no fault of his own as despite a long introduction with another dog at the kennels which went extremely well, the other dog will not accept him into his home.

Given that Ozzy appears to have had little or no training in his short life, he is turning out to be a very intelligent little boy. He is already responding well to his new name and coming when called.

He knows how to sit, and we are working on several other basic commands such as “off” (because he thought he could counter surf.)

Other than two initial little wet accidents he is clean and settles well at night for up to eight hours; although one of us has up to
this point stayed with him because of the other dog issue.

This hasn’t been a problem though because Ozzy is a total cuddle monster.

He is extremely people friendly and will be very easy to train as he is very very food orientated but not aggressive in any way around food or treats. He can be a bit snatchy at first but responds very well to retrieving said treat and then takes it gently on command. He loves toys, in particular squeaky ones and is happy to amuse himself. Not too good though with soft toys as he tries to chew them up.

Ozzy travels well in the car and had a lengthy journey with no issues Ozzy walks remarkably well on the lead after the initial excitement of getting out.

When on a lead he is very curious on seeing other dogs but doesn’t show signs of aggression. He does need attentive handling though because he can be quite strong for his size and age.

He pays no attention to passing traffic including cyclists. We suggest that he would benefit more from being the only dog in the house as he would receive maximum attention but would also probably be ok with a young laid-back dog.

Not tested with cats or small furries so would say no to this. Likewise, he hasn’t met any small children. Given how friendly he is though, older dog savvy children shouldn’t be an issue.

He does occasionally mouth when excited but stops when told.

All in all Ozzy is going to make somebody a fantastic companion.
