Lovely older German Shepherd Dogs that need new homes

Poor Archie. His story highlights the plight of older dogs

Pet Insurance for older dogs

We do not want these older dogs to spend lengthy periods in a cold kennel

Tess - Stoke

tess older gsd

This beautiful lady is 10 years young Tess.  She has been spayed but is not up to date with her vaccinations.  She is good with children from toddlers upwards, will need further socializing with other dogs but will chase cats.  Can pull on the lead but has good recall; loves her toys and has no possession aggression at all; she's just a very playful dog.  Our assessor found her to be very friendly and greeted her with a waggy tail.  Overall Tess is young at heart and needs a new family who will give her the love and attention she enjoys.

Jay

jay german shepherd with deformed foot

This is Jay she was brought to our kennels from the pound, she is a very friendly girl in need of a groom. She travelled well. But once we got her into the kennels the staff noticed she was holding up her foot we have had her to a vet and she has 3 toes on one pad this is a deformity and vet not seen anything like it. She is also very stressed in the kennels so we would love to get her out into a home of her own or a foster. She is fine with other dogs.

Razz

razz gsd abandoned at the pound

This boy is 7 years old and was handed in at the pound by a lady who found him straying. The owner was traced said she had sold him and didn't want to know. He is a very sweet boy, very friendly, seemed ok weight wise just a little thin round the middle, teeth grotty possibly with age and no dental hygiene. His coat was quite wirey,  temperament seemed ok. Volunteer got him out of his kennel without anyone with her and he was fine . No signs of agression at all, walked ok no toeing in or out although he was a little bit low at back end. Great on lead just pulled a little but nothing major. He does have cuts on his nose where he is damaging it at the front of the kennel. When volunteer left him, he rubbed his nose up the door and made it bleed again. A really nice boy.

Gemma- East Sussex

gemma ex breeding bitch

Gemma is a 12-year-old German Shepherd dog who has spent most of her life in a crate being bred from litter after litter. She deserves a forever home where she can at least spend the time she has remaining being loved and cared for as she should have had all these years. Despite being grossly overweight and having suspected tumours, she still somehow retains some zest for life and even loves a game of football. We know she does not have long left, but hope someone finds space in their heart and home to give this girl a belated Happy Ending.

Jez - Cheshire

jez the gsd

Jez is 7 yrs neutered and vaccinated. Jez hasnt had a great life so far but is now in foster care where he is learning to be a dog again, he is begining to play with the other dog in the house, but would be best as theonly dog in his new home or with an older calm female, he is good with cats but has never lived with children. Jez is very loyal to his owner, and his training is coming on lots in foster care, Jez has a hip problem which is treated with tablets, but has had a full medical and has no other health problems. Jez is looking for his retirement home with plenty of exercise time and cuddles.

Louie - Coventry

louie lovely older gsd

This lovely friendly lad is 8 years young Louie.  He is neutered, vaccinated and house trained.  He is sadly overweight due to lack of exercise but when our assessor took him out she found he eventually walked well on the lead after initially pulling and responded well to commands but could not test his recall.  A definite no to cats and dogs he will dominate them so would be best placed as an only dog and to further socialise with other dogs. Louie is a water baby, loves to swim but doesn't like to go out of his depth, travels well in the car but hates fireworks!  A friendly dog who really enjoys the attention he deserves and needs a home soon!

Amber - Essex

amber gsd

Amber is an 8 year young spayed bitch. She has not lived with children but is fine with the current owners grandchildren of 2 years upwards. Chases the resident cat outside. Amber does not like other dogs so would need to be the only dog but she loves people.  Her back legs are slightly arthritic but she could do with losing some weight and getting more regular exercise. Her elderly owner has died and she needs a retirement home to call her own.

Taz - Southampton

taz german shepherd

Taz is a 7 year neutered male. He is good with children but not really known with other dogs as he has not been socialised with them for about 3 years.. He is not good with cats! Taz is a very obedient lad . Taz is only being rehomed as his owner is having to move into rented accommodation. This gorgeous boy just needs a home that can give him some love.

Charlie - East Sussex

charlie black german shepherd

"When charlie was taken into foster care he had scratched and chewed his back, tail and legs badly due to the fact his previous owners had neglected to treated his flea infestation for months, this had led to the skin becoming infected and very sore.  This is Charlie before. Charlie's Ears were so infected it was the worst the vet had seem and the poor lad was in so much pain that he just barked at anyone who went near him BUT just look at him now - Charlie 10 weeks on and he is a new man."

Iris

iris black gsd

Iris is an entire 6yr old female who was supposed to be a guard dog but the staff have spoilt her and now loves anyone she greets. She lives on the Company  property where she gets walked 2 -3 times a day, so doesn’t really meet other dogs.  When she has met them she can be a bit dominant as she gets anxious.  She doesn’t mind being handled all over except her ears which have had medical problems in the past therefore they don’t stand up. She is well trained, knowing all the basic commands so in the right hands she would settle and would be a good family pet.  As you can see from the photo she is over weight so needs a diet

Missy - Essex

missy gsd

Missy is a 6yr old spayed bitch who does suffer from separation anxiety but is good with children of all ages.  She does have the habit of chasing sheep if given the chance and therefore she ignore her recall. She doesn’t have any aggression issues but does want to be the centre of attention at all times.  The volunteer who assessed her say she is a lovely girl who greets and love company.

Carmen - Suffolk

carmen gsd

Carmen is a 10yr old semi long-haired entire bitch. Her vaccinations are up to date and she is microchipped. Carmen is a lovely friendly dog who is looking for a retirement home. Although she has previously been described as not good with other dogs or children she is now in foster care with three other GSDs and four children. She is very active for her age and loves her walks. She is great on a lead and doesn't react to dogs that she meets when out. Carmen needs an experienced GSD owner as she can sometimes be a little dominant but she is an very loving dog and is eager to please. Have you got a space for Carmen, where she can see out her twilight years surrounded by love and comfort?

Buckley - Hereford

buckley gsd

This poor boy is 8 year old Buckley who was rescued just before Christmas after living in a garage and not being walked since Apr last year.  He is currently living with one of our fosterers who is providing him with a loving environment, gentle walks and the care he rightly deserves.  He is now up date with his vaccinations, is housetrained and travels well.  He's a gentle giant but will pull on the lead especially if he sees another dog; however if introduced carefully he will get on well with a calm bitch; he previously lived with his sister.  Although Buckley is now safe in foster he now needs a forever home, ideally one with older children either as an only dog so he can enjoy the attention or possibly with a bitch but to be properly introduced.

Max - Warwickshire

max gsd

This poor dog really has had a raw deal over the last few weeks. Max is 7, he is currently in kennels and desperately needs a forever home as he gets very stressed in kennels.  A truly loving and affectionate dog in the home but is overly protective out of the house so will need an extremly firm/strong handler. It would be ideal if Max lived in a rural area where he will benefit from great walks and not come across too many people.  Not suitable with children but appears to be good with dogs but a definite no with cats.  A loving boy in need of a loving home. Read more about Max

Mac - Essex

mac german shepherd

Mac is a gorgeous 7yr old entire boy who needs to be rehomed as he has become protective over a small child.  He is a typical GSD, with a protective nature and vocal around strangers.  On walks he does start off by pulling that does settle down after a while.  He has not meet cats so no sure how he would react when seeing one.  He has lived with other dogs.  Mac does not like baths and the rain but does love playing with his toys and will give them to you to play.  He will need to be rehomed with older children who have GSD experience.

This is the lovely Morgan - how could you resist her?

morgan playing with her toys

Morgan is very affectionate & loves being around people and is fine about people coming in the house. She would need someone around most of the time so maybe a young ish retired couple/person as she gets lonely. Morgan would be ok to live with children aged 12 and over, and would prefer not to live with cats. She cant be homed with other dogs. Morgan needs regular medication for her eyes, but it is not an expensive treatment.
