Nico - Newport

This handsome lad is Nico who is around 7 years old and is neutered.

As you can see from his pictures, Nico is blind in both eyes. We do not know how long he has been like this.

Nico was discarded like a piece of trash by his owner when his eyesight deteriorated and he was no longer fit for purpose. Nico was taken to a dreadful shelter where his fate would have been either being left to starve to death or to be brutally slaughtered because nobody would want him.

GSDR have made enquiries into having him assessed for cataract surgery, but this cannot be done whilst he is in kennels. If surgery were possible, Nico needs to be settled in a home where he would get good aftercare following surgery.

Nico needs an owner who understands the needs of a blind dog. Because he can't see, you have to speak to him so he knows you are there before you attempt to do anything to him, such as put a lead on him.

Blind dogs usually do better if rehomed with another dog who can be their eyes. Nico has lived with female dogs but he is not keen on living with other male dogs. He has also lived with cats.

Because of his blindness we wouldn't put him with young children as they may startle him. We think an quieter adult home would be better for this lovely chap.

Nico has had a terrible life so he now deserves some good luck. Could you offer Nico his forever home
