Update May 2020: Nala has been rehomed
Poor Nala did not have a good start in life. She was rescued by her present owner from dreadful circumstances, under threat that she would be shot if she was not taken away. She was clearly neglected and underweight and the clue to her ongoing anxiety lies in these very early weeks. Bad experiences were probably her daily reality. On her walk with our assessor she flinched and barked at a discarded bottle in a hedge. Any surprise could be a bad one.
Having said this, Nala has been able to respond to training. She is alert for danger but loves her walks and is easy on the lead. She is wary of visitors to the house but is not aggressive. She does live with another dog but is fearful of other dogs and children, rather than aggressive as such. But, like any frightened dog, her behaviour can be unpredictable.
Her owners are only rehoming her as they need to work full time and cannot give her the attention that she needs. When they had more time, she was improving under the guidance of a trainer working with them.
We do not feel that Nala would be a challenge to any experienced owner. However, such deep seated nervousness requires commitment and a calm experienced owner in a child free home. If you are such a person, would you consider the next stage of the rescue of Nala?
This sweet pup would relish time and attention being devoted to her and would reward you amply.
