MARSHALL - KENT

Marshall has been in a home, a foster home and now in kennels....

So an update for this gorgeous boy......  The adopter had only had him a couple of days, Marshall was lying on the floor asleep and the adopter leant over the top of him shocking Marshall who snapped at him (understandable in my world) For that 1 strilke the dog was out ..... Failed by a human

He was then moved to kennels where he was givien time to destress. He didn't like the entire males that lived at the property and would run up and down the fence line barking at them. He didn't like having a collar on and when taken to te vet was so reactive that the vet couldn't assess him. He then had an altercation with the owner of the kennels as she tried to pull hair out of his bum and he bit her. For that reason and the safety of the people that worked for her he had to go. We were toild that he either needed to be "medicated" or PTS.

He was moved to a training kennels about a month ago. After his initial few days of settling in and working out what had happened, the staff say that he is a lovely boy. He has a collar and lead put on very day and walks nicel;y with all the staff out to the field whare he loves a game of ball. They all love him and say that his personality has started to come out as he has settled. There has only been one incident with a food bowl but that was sorted pretty quickly.

Initial assessment back in 2021:

The volunteer only saw the good side of Marshall. She thoughht he was a lovely boy who in the right home with someone of experience will absolutely excel. He has certainly regressed since his owners have been working longer hours. He is a typical anxious pup who needs his boundaries set in a calm relaxed atmosphere. He has no recall so is taken to a secure field to let off steam. He is not keen on the groomers or having a bath but enjoys puddle paddling.

Marshall  resource guards anything whether it be food or socks. If he deems it his it should not be removed. PLease be aware that this is something that will need to be handled carefully and will require work. If you are unsure what resource guarding is please ask. He can be hand fed without issue but if food put down then he needs to be left well alone.

Marsahll walks well on a figure of 8 lead and the volunteer managed to put him in a sit and keep his attention when another dog passed. With the owner he is generally being a yob on 2 legs pretending that he isd this vicious boy who can eat the world. He is the same with squirrels cats and horses.

All the above are issues that can be turned around in the right home. He just needs time and patience and some hard work to prove that he will be a wonderful addition to the right home.

Marshall NEEDS time to settle and time to trust . He mustn't be overfaced on day one. "Less is more" is an expression we seem to use a lot in rescue but it really is what he needs. Once you have given him that time the issues that he has can then be worked on. He will NOT be perfect on day one but he does deserve a home that will not give up at the first hurdle.

Marshall is looking for a sensible home with someone who understands the breed, he is not a first time GSD BUT given a chance he will make a cracking companion
