Update October 2018: Lincoln has now been rehomed.
Lincoln is a classic male GSD. He is an ex emergency services dog. Apparently, he was not brave enough to continue training, but he was bred from working lines and would certainly have looked the part anyway. He was rehomed to a young couple who have had no GSD, and not even large dog experience. It is a tribute to Lincoln's basically sweet nature that there has been no dire escalation of his behaviour. They love Lincoln but, predictably, cannot cope with him. He is said to be 'very happy' and 'spoiled' in his present home. Any experienced GSD owner will be able to visualize the situation that has ensued.
Lincoln is just at the age when he is an unruly 'teenager' . He has been recently castrated but is still an ebullient bouncy boy, who has just not been trained to desist from puppy mouthing and the like. His lead work is similarly neglected. And so, he is a big baby who needs to be taken back to the basics. Our assessor thought that he was so lovely that she wanted to adopt him herself. She is confident that he would not be a problem for anyone experienced with the breed and able to provide the training necessary for a young GSD. He has the potential to be the kind of companion that we all want and a credit to the breed.
What a lovely boy Lincoln is to fail service training and not to take too much advantage of his young owners. His present situation is a testament to his basic good character. It is obvious that he will need an experienced GSD owner and to live in a lone dog household or one with an older bitch to help with his discipline, either without, or with older children only.
Are you the person who can offer such a home to this lovely boy and help him to meet his full potential ?
