Legs-Leicester

Meet Legs, 3 year old female GSD x Akita

Legs has three legs after being hit by a car when she was younger.  Her current owners found her wandering around Nottingham and took her to the vet to be scanned. The Mirco chip was unregistered and they didn’t want her to go to the dog warden so they kept her safe until they could find her owner. They managed to track down her old owner who said Legs frequently escaped and they were looking to rehome her as she kept knocking over the 2 year old grandchild.

Her current owners who have had legs for less than 1 month would love to keep Legs but she does not get on with their male dog who is very excitable and bouncy. He was not listening to her warnings so they separated the dogs. She may prefer to be around a calmer dog.

She currently lives with three cats and gets along with them all. She loves to play with them and is very respectful. Her previous owner also had cats.

Legs knows some commands like sit and paw. She does pull a bit on the lead and may be too strong for some people. Her new owners have let her off in a secure field and her recall was selective. Our volunteer says they didn’t see any dogs while out walking but several dogs were barking from their homes while going past and Legs was unphased by this. She doesn’t react to traffic or people.

Legs could live with older children. She is larger than most male GSD, so we wouldn’t rehome her with young children.

Legs is currently in season. Her new owner would have to agree to a spaying contract when adopting.
Legs is good at telling them if she wants to go out. She has the occasional accident in the flat. She is also good at being left alone. Her owners have left her for 5 hours once with the dog camera on and she was fine.

Our volunteer said “What I observed of Legs was a sweet natured, shy and somewhat aloof girl. She appears to be a bit nervous (though absolutely no signs of aggression) with new people and so I expect that she will come out of her shell given time in a new home. She would be an ideal dog to place in a home with cats and potentially older children too. She does not appear to have any major behavioural issues and I think would fit in well with most families.”
