Update Adopted but now Jaxon returned from adopter and placed in kennels as new lady owner felt he was becoming far too dominant and protective outside the home and repeatedly lunging at random passersby and on one occasion a cyclist. In the home he has been no problem whatsoever and behaves very well but confidence has been lost walking him outside as he now can feel handler tensing up when walking past folk etc
Original Assessment: Jaxon was 2 years old in September, he has been part of a busy/sociable household, living with children from 7 years old. He is sadly looking to be re homed as he has run after one of the childrens friends as they opened the door of the house, this has never happened previously but the friend who knows Jaxon was visibly shaken to see Jaxon coming down the hall and out the door towards him. Usually Jaxon is behind a baby gate with the other small dog he lives with, not sure how this incident occurred but it has obviously shaken the family. Our volunteer was met by two barking dogs, Jaxon was allowed into the room and happily accepted treats, he was also happy to go out for a walk and in fact he met another female shepherd who he was happy to say hello and play with. We are told Jaxon is used to being off lead and has excellent recall. He is used to beings left for the working day and has no separation issues. However Jaxon is only 2 years old and like most young dogs will try and push buttons and get his own way if he can, therefore a new forever home will need to be experienced with the breed and continue training etc.
Our volunteer concluldes. Jaxon is a lovely male dog that is more submissive than confident. He just wants to please and be with you. He is great with children and used to a busy house with visitors, however following the incident it would be best to re home without chlldren and to someone with GSD experience to help build his confidence and give him the exercise and home he deserves. He would make a perfect only dog or an additional dog as he is good with other dogs of all sizes. Someone with experience of the breed will get a wonderful, loyal, intelligent, loving dog with Jaxon, a dog who will love to out on walks, behave well when out and then happily curl up with you and fall asleep when home. I am very confident anyone who meets Jaxon will love him straight away, I did.
