Jack is a beautiful 3 year old shepherd who has only been in his current home for a few weeks. Sadly the owner, due to health reasons, cannot walk him anymore hence Jack is now looking for a new forever home. Our volunteer was greeted with a bark and a nose pressed against him and a few excitable minutes but soon Jack was lay on the floor and happy for a fuss. Outside in the garden Jack was happy to play ball and when it was time for a walk outside he was as good as gold waiting patiently to go. They walked around local streets & he was calm & sat on command. We passed cars, prams, cycles & road-works without any adverse reactions. We queued at a bus stop & he was calm with the rest of the people in the queue (we got some strange looks when the bus arrived but we did not get on!!). On the return walk we entered a small shopping precinct that had a small dog tied to a fence. Jack reacted as soon as he saw it with nervous aggression. I checked him & turned his head away from the dog & he calmed down. When turning him back towards the dog he once again reacted by barking & pulling on the lead, therefore going forward he will need to have more training and socialisation, it is more fear than aggression (apparently he was bitten previously and is now wary). Jack is a gentle lad & is great with people and in the right GSD savvy home he will surely blossom.
