Indigo - Lincolnshire

Indigo has been through a great deal in her young life. She was rescued from Cyprus, where she was found in a bin abandoned with her sister. She then had the ordeal of the journey here and came to a home that would be overfacing for most dogs, never mind one that is likely to have been traumatised. The house is extremely busy with children, other dogs and cats and her owners do not have the time to integrate Indigo into the household properly or to undertake her basic training.

Our assessor, who is a professional dog trainer, found Indigo responsive to training and thinks that she will be a joy to work with. She is food orientated and took her treats delicately and with gentle enthusiasm. She was very taken with Indigo and found her trusting and affectionate. She described her as 'easy to work with and a 'sweet happy girl'.

Indigo lives with other dogs and is very friendly with a male who is submissive to her but not to a chihuahua (We all know how feisty they can be!) Indigo will not be submissive to this dog. She does live with cats but chases them as well. Basically she has not been trained to understand her place in the hierarchy of the household.

Indigo is reactive to any dogs that she meets outside. She is still nervous of everything, as the outside world is threatening to her. She was attacked by dogs four once and so she will need careful socializing with others. There is every hope that she will be capable of changing this aspect of behaviour.

She is basically a pup who has to explore the world and learn that it is not threatening. She has a cheerful personality and this should prove to be more than possible in the right hands. She is in need of one to one attention and training and lots of the love that was denied in her early life
