FREDDIE - ESSEX

Poor Poor Freddie.... desperately needs a new forever home.

The volunteer turned up to assess Freddie and found him crated in the corner of a room that had another 7 dogs all barking. The owner was not there but his partner was. There was no way an assessment withing the home could take place.

It transpires that they took Freddie on from a friend just before Christmas but we are at a loss as to why Freddie drew the short straw for rehoming, over the other dogs.

The Volunteer had this to say :

This proved to be a complex assessment. Following an aborted visit  in which it proved impossible to carry out any meaningful judgment on Freddie due to the home environment, it was agreed to meet well away from the home. A completely different dog emerged.

Freddie did show a little anxiety and nervousness but this was minimal. There was no barking and not even a hint of a growl. It did take a short time to verbally connect with him but toward the end of our meet I felt there was a little progress. It is such a shame that a fair assessment in the home was not practical as this does leave considerable gaps overall.

Freddie showed nothing really more than interest when we passed people and when we saw a couple of other dogs. His ears pricked but there was no lunging or any sign of aggression. He walks very well on the lead considering his lifestyle.

He appears in overall good health. He enjoys sniffing anything and everything. Again, while walking alone with him, away from the owner, there were no problems. He didn’t take much notice of me talking to him but I did make some inroads in communication with him.

Clearly, when anyone comes into the home, all the dogs become over excited and anxious and therefor wind each other up, escalating the situation. This morning, I saw nothing in Freddie to cause me serious concern. I feel confident that in the hands of a knowledgeable and experienced owner, and as a “single “dog, he would soon bond and the real Freddie would emerge.
