DUKE is in the care of Dogs Trust Merseyside, please contact them direct to enquire about this boy if you think you have the experience, time and patience to help.
Duke is coming up to 1 year old. He has been in the care of Dogs Trust for several months as they havent found the right experienced home to help him . He is a large, very strong dog, who will push the boundaries if allowed and get grabby in play and for attention, however with his main carers he doesn’t do this and trains well but knows if a new person is a push over he will try to take over.
Duke doesn’t know how to interact with dogs and is very vocal and grabby at them, with time and the right dog this could turn into play but it is difficult to get dogs that can tolerate his size or his vocal pitch - it isnt aggression just excitement.
Duke started at a young age to show signs of stiffness on some walks so we had him xrayed and it was confirmed he does have mild hip dysplasia and elbow disease. Duke doesn’t care less about this and will walk all day, although he is not allowed to. He is on daily medication but is still exercised normally.
Duke can still chew and for this reason cannot be left alone for long periods.
He is strong on the lead but had lots of training to help with this whilst in our care, he knows basics like sit, down, wait,on his bed, into a crate and he is a clever boy willing to learn.
To discuss Duke please contact the Dogs Trust either by visiting their website or telephone.
