Dita - North Yorkshire

Update - April 25

Dita has been in long-term fostercare for 3 years. Her current fosterer’s deteriorating mobility prevents addressing her issues, because of which it is urgent that we find a new foster or permanent home as soon as possible.

Dita came to us from Serbia, where she had not got off to a good start.  Initially, when she came into foster care she was a bundle of nerves and would wet herself at the drop of a hat.  However, she soon started to settle down and has lived with two male dogs without incident.

She now loves everyone she meets and is very affectionate, but still does not like other dogs until she gets to know them; initially, she will adopt “fight” rather than “flight” mode and, therefore, needs careful introduction.  She is not suitable for a working family.  We are confident that, in the right hands, she will learn to walk without pulling and can be socialised with other dogs.  She loves her food and is happy to eat whatever food she is given.  She used to be a ‘counter-surfer’ and would steal food, but she no longer does this.  She does not climb on furniture and has always been clean in the house.  She knows basic commands like “sit, come, down, leave”.

A very bright dog, she learns quickly and has recently started scent work, which she loves and is good at.

Her favourite things, in order of preference, are:- food, playing ball, more food, tummy rubs and more food.  She used to be a ‘counter-surfer’ and would steal food, but she no longer does this.  She does not climb on furniture.

Dita is 4 and spayed.  As she has no history with children, we will be looking for a home where any children are at least 11/12
