This is Digger who is an entire 6-year-old who spends most of his time on a 2-metre chain bored out of his mind so chews his bed. Nobody bothers with him or interacts with him, they just fill his feed bowl up when it's empty!
He hasn't lived with children but occasionally meets children who visit with whom he is fine. He has lived with cats, a Labrador and terriers.
He pulls on the lead and doesn't really have recall. He will listen if he wants to. He can do sit, wait, leave and paw.
After running through the assessment, our volunteer approached Digger - he was wary but not unfriendly. She gave him some treats and checked his ears and his teeth, felt down his slides and he felt a little skinny. Although he was clearly wary of her actions but he was absolutely fine. He would sit and take treats very gently.
After giving him some strokes he wanted to play with an old ragged ball and seemed very happy with the interaction.
We believe with a bit of time, love and training he would make a fantastic pet.
He sometimes goes inside if the owner is around. Due to him being an escape artist he is chained up most the day, but may get a walk. The chain was around 2 metres in length. Presumably Digger is just trying to escape this terrible life he has endured for 6 years!
The kind person that approached us for help in rehoming Digger has explained that the owner has agreed to give the dog up as they don't have time for him and although she wasn't a dog person, she felt sorry for him as he wasn't being looked after.
Digger's coat was quite dirty and he had open scuffs/ scratches on his nose, presumably from the rocks he had to lie on in the yard.
