Dexter is only 20 months and not having nearly enough time spent with him and when our assessor visited the house she was greeted by silence (Dexter was in the garden), eventually Dexter was brought into the room, he immediately launched himself at her and nipped, owners recalled and Dexter obediently returned to his side and went on his back for a tummy rub. Apparently Dexter is fine within the family environment but obviously has no idea how to react when visitors are on the premises and feels he has to protect. Therefore this dog will need an experienced home one where they can start to socialise him, continue his training and just let him be a dog. Our assessor has loaned a head collar to owners to show that Dexter is much easier to control on the lead wearing this and hopefully they will continue to get him out more using this for a more enjoyable walk. Dexter hasn't been socialised with other dogs since he was around 1 year old, so again he will need careful introduction to other dogs as we are told though not aggressive he wants to play rough. Dexter lives with 2 children who Dexter was happy to be around. We are told 2 cats reside at the property but we didn't see them on our assessment. Dexter is only 20 months old, he appears a loved family dog who has not had much structure or training, though he does know basic commands. Dexter is vaccinated and microchipped.
