Coco - Rhyl

Well where do we begin? This of course is our little Coco who has a huge number of supporters and contributors who have been following her story from day 1.

Coco arrived at GSDR on 29th June 2013 after she was picked up as an emergency by a volunteer. It quickly became apparent that this little puppy was very poorly and urgently needed help.

It was bad enough that a vet quickly diagnosed Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA) which needed major surgery but then Coco deteriorated very rapidly and it was discovered that she had parvo virus. She was immediately hospitalised in doggy intensive care at a specialist referral centre, where it was touch and go for a few days.

But our little Coco is a fighter and she pulled through and went on to have her thoracic surgery for her PRAA. You can read all about her progress on - Coco Living Her Dream

Coco has survived against all odds thanks to the dedication of her foster dads Will and Wayne. She has become a firm favourite with guests and visitors at her foster home The Pier Hotel in Rhyl and she has helped raise thousands of pounds to help other German Shepherds that need rescue help.

Coco has progressed so well, she has gained weight, her feeding routines are well established so we all agree that Coco is now ready to go to her forever home.

Coco needs a dedicated home with adoptive parents who understand the needs of a dog with PRAA and will make sure that they continue with the feeding regimes to ensure that Coco continues to thrive. She should not need any further treatment for this condition if feeding routines are adhered to. She made need a Bailey chair or something similar for her meal times as she must eat in an upright position so that the food gets down into her stomach. She cannot do this on her own and if fed normally, she will regurgitate her food expose her to the risk of aspiration pneumonia.

For all of us that have met her let us warn you, be prepared for your hearts to melt because Coco is quite simply, adorable. You cannot fail to love this little girl.

We believe Coco is around 11mths old, she has not had a season yet but she will need to be spayed 3 mths after. We will discuss how best this be done with her new adoptive parents.

Coco loves other dogs, loves people and is a joy to be around.

Everyone at GSD would like to thank all the people that donated to Coco's fund which raised a staggering £10,027.30 to pay for her all her emergency treatments and for her thoracic surgery. As previously stated, her PRAA should not need further surgery or expensive treatments.
