Well this is a very sad situation and this young man needs out of his environment ASAP.
Chance has lived in his current home for the last years since he was a pup. He owners are not giving him the care that he needs or deserves and whilst they have been told on numerous occasions that they need to do right by this lovely boy, this is the first time that they have taken notice.
The volunteer that went to assess Chance arranged to meet him outside of the home. She threw him a treat which he ate and then fed from her hand, when she looked at him he barked but didn't lunge. She was also able to walk next to Chance on that first meeting. Chance definitely feeds off his owner to whom he is very bonded. The owner admits that Chance is VERY RARELY walked and sometimes he doesn't get out of bed so Chance has no other optkion than to relive himself in the house. He picks up on all his owners moods and becomes upset and concerned.
He is a guarder, especially of his food bowl and anything that he has that he would see as his. He has very little stimulation in his life, mental or physical.
This young man needs OUT, BUT he needs to decompress wherever he goes. He needs a lot of time and patience, to begin with you can only be the feeder. He has to learn to trust you . He certainly will not be a dog that walks into your living ropom takes a deep breath and says "Thank goodness I am Home". He needs to be stripped of his old behaviours and taught how to be a proper dog, to enjoy the simple things in life like exercise and mental sdtimulation .
If you have the experience to help this young boy I am sure he will be forever grateful
