Callie is a beautiful GSD x Malinois who although she is very bonded with her dad isnt so keen to be separated and left with mum, try as they might Callie cant settle without her dad. Our volunteer went to meet Callie and these are his comments.
I was gently barked at as I entered but she accepted me after a sniff. She became agitated as I stood up & barked at me for a minute backing off me as she did so. Callie sought reassurance from her male owner & calmed down, again coming for a sniff at me. I offered her my hand which she licked & then allowed me to touch & stroke her. During my conversations with the family, I purposely ignored her, until she came & sat by my feet.
Callie gave me the impression of an unsure dog but was easily swayed when I offered her a treat. Callie took the treat very gently from me & was keen for more. As soon as I stopped giving her the treats & replaced the bag into my pocket, she thought it was acceptable to climb up onto the sofa sticking her nose into my pocket. As I stood & told her to get down, the barking started once again. I put this down to lack of boundary setting by the owners. I requested Callie be placed back on the lead & give the lead to me. On shortening the lead & ignoring her, she calmly sat at my feet. On the walk I exchanged the lead & collar for my slip lead. She did not pull at all & sat on command. On returning to her home, I introduced Callie to my own GSD. She was very excited & playfully barking & play-bowing at him. As soon as he turned & looked at her, she immediaitely hid behind owners legs. Callie is a young intelligent dog who just needs to be taught boundaries & socialised with other dogs & if this is done, I feel she will make a great family pet.
Please speak to your Area Co Ordinator and have a home check in place to discuss next steps re meeting Callie
