Caesar - Northumberland

Caesar - Northumberland
Caesar is a 3 year old neutered male. He has been in his present home since a puppy and has been well looked after. His owners have separated and Caesar has gone with the husband, however, the husband works 12 hour shifts and lives 1 hour away from his work, so it is impracticable for Caesar to stay with him. At the moment the owner’s mother and sister are sharing Caesar’s care when the owner is at work, but the arrangement is not easy and so his owner has decided to try and find him a new home with and owner/owners who will have more time to spend with him.

He is very good with children (his owners have a 1 year old and a 2 year old), and the owner’s sister's two children are aged 7 & 8, so he’s very careful around small children. He has no food aggression and happily shares his toys.

Unfortunately he does have a chronic health problem. He has auto immune disease, which affects his immune system making it over react. As a result his pads on his paws often break open and some of the outer layer can peel off completely if not looked after properly. When his feet are bad his owner avoids roads and sticks to grass and doesn’t take a ball so the dog isn’t encouraged to run around and just has gentle walks until they are healed. He also bathes the feet with an antiseptic solution to keep them clean and uses Hydrocortisone ointment on them. He has ordered a set of Neo Paws for walking when they are bad, so hopefully these will help. So, although the condition is chronic, it is manageable.

Our assessor thought he was a lovely natured dog, very friendly, barks when someone comes to the house, but stops as soon as they walk in and greets them enthusiastically. He was obedient to his owner and although he barks when he sees dogs he is very happy to play with them.

His owner describes him as “He’s very energetic, happy, almost dopey in a funny way (he keeps walking into doors/ walls) and soft as anything. Typical German Shepherd, as in very vocal. Has been brought up and lives in a house with 2 babies so is great around kids. Very loyal and loving - loves to just be in the same room as you. Despite his big size he has never shown any aggression towards people, children or other dogs, he's just a big cuddly softy”.
