11/11/2024 – What a lovely boy, full of potential. Bruno is in kennels in the North Kesteven area of Lincolnshire. Bruno has been out happily with Dave one of our GSDR volunteers in his van to start some training. I met Dave whilst he was with Bruno, I had never met Bruno before, but he was friendly and took treats with no issues.
Bruno gets very excited and is very bouncy but responded to discipline when walked on a slip lead, Bruno is a big sniffer so would enjoy tracking. Dave reports that Bruno was not reactive to other dogs whilst out and takes treats nicely, he was fine travelling.
Kennels report that they have not seen any signs of food aggression since Bruno has been in kennels and he is friendly to all the staff.
Bruno needs a loving forever home, with GSD experienced owner(s) that have leadership skills, who can provide training and socialisation support to help him. Bruno has separation issues which have never been addressed, this will need addressing from scratch. Due to Bruno’s history, he will need a cat free home but could live with older children and a female dog. Please see Bruno’s history write up below for more information.
Bruno is a 16-month-old Belgian Malinois x GSD, who came to kennels after his owner could no longer look after him due to mental health issues.
GSDR have spoke to Bruno’s dog trainer who has commented that he is not a working dog and needs an active home.
Bruno comes across initially as full-on and bouncy, but this is mainly due to not having enough stimulation, attention, or exercise at home. He has never shown any aggression.
He has lived with older children in the past and can do so in the future. Bruno has lived with other dogs in the past and could live with another female, he will react to other dogs while out on a walk.
He has not lived with cats but does have a strong prey drive and will chase.
Bruno will need someone experienced, who understands the breed and has a lot of time and patience for Bruno and will help him with his confidence. He has spent most of his life crated, and if left alone, he would bark for 1-2 hours before settling. He has never had appropriate home alone training, so this will need building up from scratch.
