Update February 2020: Borro has been rehomed
Borro was rescued in Spain, where he was found to be in poor condition, so starved and weak that he was the 'walking dead'. He was lovingly nursed back to health there and is now a fine upstanding example of the breed.
He came to the UK for a better life and has been in kennels, a foster home and was adopted. He was loved by the kennel staff and his foster carer. His adoption failed very quickly however. He was extremely happy there, but we had rehomed him to an inexperienced owner and Borro began to become dominant.
This poor boy has one issue: food. It is hardly surprising that he is competitive and demanding for this, if he can get away with it. The incident leading to his adoption failing was over food. We had not realized that Borro can be quite a dominant boy. He needs an assertive experienced owner, which we had not realized. In kennels and his foster placement he was handled by confident people who all had good leadership skills. In his foster home he was always present when the teenage daughter of the household was eating alone. He begged food from her but, when told 'no', he respected that from her. So, we thought he was an 'easy dog'. And, we are correct, he is, in the right home.
He does get along with children and is gentle with them. We just would not rehome him with a child, as he can be determined, where food is concerned. Until he relaxes about this, it might not be safe.
The food issue rules Borro's life, still, and he would also need to be a single dog. He could not mix with the other dogs at foster as he was bullying about food and they were old and he could get away with it. He was also so needy for attention that, even without the food issue, he would cry if they were being shown affection and he was not.
We are looking for a super forever home for this lovely boy. He so deserves this after all that he has been through. It is always unfathomable how a dog so brutalized and neglected can remain so human oriented. All this boy wants - apart from regular meals and tidbits - is to be petted and comforted and loved by his owner. He will repay the care with deep love and bonding.
Are you an experienced owner? Can you give this boy the love for which he yearns?
