Blind German Shepherd

Blind German Shepherd needs a very special home

Several weeks ago a volunteer took a phone call from an elderly couple asking for us to collect their 10 month old gsd puppy as they couldn't walk him anymore. The following day he was picked up & taken into foster care with several other dogs. However, George is no ordinary 10 month old pup. He is in his own head- but he was born completely blind.

Ideal Home: Somebody who is at home a lot & has one other steady large breed dog and the patience of a saint would be suitable for George. Are you that person? Is there a George shaped hole in your heart???

REHOMED

George - a very special boy with very special needs

The previous owners bought him from a breeder knowing he was blind but under the illusion he would be easier to manage! They couldn't be further from the truth! George had been allowed to eat from the owners plates, lie all over them on the furniture, drag them headfirst down the road, and generally rule their lives. He was craving for some direction & stability.

George - a very handsome young dog?

George is the most affectionate, intelligent, boisterous and funny dog you could ever meet. He is also very challenging, demanding & desperate for the right home of his own.

George - he may be blind but he is a typical young gsd

George is understandably nervous of new situations but soon gains his confidence. He is very strong & has had no training at all so needs discipline & guidance.

George desperately wants to be a normal gsd puppy and do all the things a young dog should be doing.

George needs a special person

George cannot be taught things in the normal way, he cannot be disciplined in 'normal' ways you would use for sighted dogs. He needs patience, understanding & consistency.

George - don't underestimate the challenge here.

He will test your patience. He will test your physical strength. He will push you to breaking point. But, he will also give you more love than you can imagine. He will be the most rewarding challenge you could hope for. He will be the most loyal, funny, intelligent dog you could ever wish to meet. And he will make you the proudest German Shepherd owner in the world.

Ideal Home: Somebody who is at home a lot & has one other steady large breed dog and the patience of a saint would be suitable for George. Are you that person? Is there a George shaped hole in your heart???
