Bentley - West Yorkshire

Bentley was booked into the vets to be PTS all because the owners had no time for him. The vets alerted us and were able to convince the owners to sign him over to Rescue.

He’s currently in foster with another GSD, this is what his foster dad had to say:

Bentley is continuing to improve with his training and recall (on a line) he does get excited when its time to go out but who wouldn’t guessing the life he’s had. He is still in competition with my dog but out and about he is meeting and greeting other dogs fine on the lead, ive not seen him react when passing others dogs. His training is done with a tennis ball rather than food treats and he loves to run about and play fetch. He is learning sit/stay before going to retrieve which I'm using to get him to learn to be patient as well as using his nose which he is improving. He walks well on the lead if he is kept to heel.

In the house he is calm and usually just lies on his bed or plays with toys, he barks if my dog enters the room but is learning the command to stop. I guess he’s just staking his claim to his side of the room. I have been able to leave them alone for short periods in the house without any trouble but still feel he would benefit from being the only dog (although I've not seen him with a bitch other than passing on lead)

His weight is improving but he is still quite skinny and weak so his exercise would need to be structured till he’s up to full strength again. Ive got most of his knots out so he has a few bald patches but he has a good soft coat on him and doesn't mind being brushed along as your careful not to catch a knot.

He is eating in the same room as mine with no guarding issues and I'm able to pick up his bowl.

Bentley is now looking for his forever home, someone who will keep him safe and give him the life and security he so deserves.
