BEAR - SURREY

Bear is in a very sad situation. His owner is dying and as much as he loves his dad and vice virsa he is struggling with all the carers coming into the home on a daily basis. He is a very happy boy and once introduced causes no issue but some of the carers are very wary of Bear so he has to be put outside.

Bear is a big baby, he has very few if any boundaries in place but shows no aggression. He is slightly anxious and when someone knocks at the door he will react by barking. The volunteers entered and Bear was behnd a baby gate but once let out he came to greet them and check them over. He was very interested when the paperwork was being filled in and wanted to help. When he realised that it was not really that exciting he took himself off to lie down and have a chew on his bone.

The volunteers played ball with him and could take toys off him with no issue. Bear was on high alert and keen to have his toy back. In the garden he has NO recall, does not respond when called but will happily trot back when ready. If Bear is taken out it is usually a short car ride to the park. He is NEVER let off lead but will only bark at other dogs if they bark first. He hasn't been well socialised so I think any adopter needs to take time and do slow introductions to any dog that they meet.

Bear has not lived with children but does see the owners grandchildren on a regular basis. He can be a little boistrous but the get along well.

In short Bear needs.......

Boundaries, and regular exercise. He needs training and a sensible confident owner who understands that he is not going to be perfect on day 1. He needs time, patience and some confidence building. He needs slow introduction to other dogs for socialisation.

Finally he needs to be the only pet in the home whilst all the above are worked on.
