This beautiful big boy is Bear who is an 11 month old, neutered, Caucasian Shepherd dog and through no fault of his own, is looking for a new home. He was bred here in the UK
Bear is currently 55 kg at only 11 months old so will grow and fill out more. Caucasian males usually weigh between 55-70 kgs so they are very big dogs.
Bear is very friendly with people and other dogs but because of his size, he may be better in an adult only home or a home with older teenage children. Bear is very good natured and enjoys lots of fuss and cuddles. He loves other dogs and just wants to play.
He is currently in kennels and is very stressed by this so urgently needs a home to call his own.
Caucasians are not a dog for a suburban lifestyle so he needs a rural home with lots of space and one where he will get regular exercise and grooming.
Although Caucasians don't need huge long walks, they do need frequent short walks. They also have very thick double coats which need regular grooming.
The breed originates from Europe where they are bred as flock guarders in the mountainous regions. They are better suited to colder climates and don't cope with heat very well so you will need to be able to provide him with somewhere shaded and cool in the summer if temperatures rise.
Caucasians have a reputation as being very formidable guard dogs, they have a bark that would wake the dead and can be nuisance barkers. They are nothing like GSD's but they are indeed wonderful dogs in the right hands.
The founder of GSDR has 3 Caucasians so if you need any advice before considering adopting Bear, please contact Jayne on 01568 797957
