Bear is approx 14 months old, he was purchased as a puppy by an elderly lady and very little training was put in place. He then went to a family member at 8 months old, the training then began. He knows all basic commands and walks ok on a lead, although the kennels are rural so he’s not seen any folk or dogs about. Lived with a female GSD but she didn’t like him. Owner said he was great off the lead with other dogs, just wary of people approaching him and would bark. When our volunteer went to assess Bear he was wearing a muzzle due to not being exposed to any visitors into the home.
Bear is currently in kennels and is such a daft, immature dog. He can be a little vocal when he first goes out with another dog but he’s been walking with a calm Male Malinois and he’s been a pleasure to walk. Bear responds well to a confident handler, he will need structure and boundaries in his new home. He certainly needs someone to continue his training and build his confidence. I have no doubt he will be an absolute cracking dog.
Bear is looking for a home with no children or cats. He has been free running with a few dogs at the kennels, so a confident but well behaved dog should be ok for him. He definitely needs an experienced home and maybe someone who can come and meet him a few times at the kennels and get to know him first. Any visitors to the home (only when you’ve given him time to settle in and he feels safe with you) would best be introduced outside the home, say on a walk and gradually build up his confidence to then accept them in the home.
So if you have the time and feel you can help this big lad then please contact your area co ordinator.
