BEAR - HAMPSHIRE

Bear is a lovely long haired entire boy who is sadly in the wrong home. His owners have no understanding of a German Shepherd or their needs. He was bought as that was the breed that the children wanted. They are now doing the right thing by Bear and finding him his new forever home.

Bear is a typical young boy who is very polite and sweet in the home. He is brilliant with the little dog that he lives with and he plays very gently with his toys.

When the volunteer arrived he was being held back by the owner who's anxiety was palpable. She asked for her to let Bear go and he charged and jumped and jumped some more. The volunteer didn't feel there was any true aggression, maybe a nip had the owner not grabbed him. Once the volunteer went into the kitchen to complete the paperwork he flopped on his blanket and ignored everyone.

When out of the home he is reactive. Its nothing that cannot be worked on with the right trainer, or owner who understands what is needed. The owner struggles with him on the lead and at one point had to hang onto the car else she would have been dragged face first down the road after a saluki that Bear decided he didn't like. The volunteer felt that with a halti or similar head collar Bear would be very well controlled out. He needs work on his recall and socialisation but the fact that he happily lives in the company of another dog tells us that with some patience and hard work Bear will come round.

If you think you have what it takes for this lovely boy the volunteer says that he has "GREAT POTENTIAL" and would excel in a home where he was given the attention and balance that he needs. He craves attention, he is a very gentle boy and will be a wonderful addition to the right family.
