Barney - Bristol

Handsome Barny is an 8 year old castrated long coated male who unfortunately is being rehomed through no fault of his own, he has been with his current owners since he was a puppy.

When our volunteer arrived at the property he did not bark or show any signs of aggression, he was confident and spent a while smelling the volunteers clothing.

His general appearance is of a large boy, he is overweight, needs a trip to the groomers etc and a good brush. He appears to be a very settled dog and closely bonded with the current owners. There was an 8 month old baby present and there was clearly no issues as the owner allowed the baby to touch Barny.

Sadly, Barny has lost his right eye due to a tumor in 2013 but is otherwise a healthy dog.

Our volunteer walked him around the local area and he soon settled into walking by his side, initially he pulled a lot although our volunteer felt it had more to do with his desire to go home again as he had no idea who he was with. Barney spent the whole walk smelling and looking in gardens, presumably for cats.

On this walk they passed several people en route and there was no concerns raised however our volunteer was unable to see what he is like with other dogs or cats as they did not see any. The owner says he is good with large dogs, ignores smaller ones and he doesn't like cats.

He is not an overly needy dog and enjoys his own space, soon after arrival and after he had smelt our volunteer, he retired to the hallway and laid down.

Barney also isn’t currently being exercised adequately by admission of the owner, with a young baby she simply doesn’t have the time.

Barny seems to be a pretty easy dog although he would definitely benefit from some basic training refresher. Sadly he is not getting enough attention since the arrival of baby and the break up of the parents.
