BANJO - -ESSEX

Thois lively lad is sadly looking for a nerw home as he had an altercation with the elderly dog in the home when the owners were out and they feel that they cannot trust him !!

He is definitely a people dog as opposed to other animals. When I went in the home, he jumped up excitedly and due to his size and strength, caused me to take a couple of small steps back. I wasn’t threatened in any way – there was no barking, just friendliness. When I sat down, he again tried to jump on my lap and then went behind the sofa giving my ear a good sniff.

The volunteer says:

When the lead was produced, Banjo got very excited. Throughout, he was “all over the place” on the lead and as said previously, pulls very hard. However, by constant and calm reassurance, I felt he did improve and he adjusted a little to my deliberately slow walking pace.He was constantly looking around at all that was happening and criss- crossing in front of me, one side to the other sniffing and inspecting any scents he might pick up. I even had a slight sweat after the walk due to his constant pulling!!!

The first dog we saw on the other side of the road was a small breed on a lead. Banjo barked and tried to run over to get closer. I didn’t sense any real aggression. I think that Banjo just doesn’t know how to socialize with other dogs. Yes, other people and dogs could easily take his barking and body language as aggression. He did seem to calm down a little after some quiet reassurance from me
