Arlo was bought as a pup (D.O.B 28th Jan 2019) by an older couple who had shepherds many times previously and they settled him into their household and although he was more in favour of his mum he didnt bother too much about dad. Move on a few months and into lockdown mode and suddenly mum was at home every day and his passion and possessiveness of her just grew and grew, so much so Arlo was frightening the male owner by his aggressive growling and guarding nature when he was near his wife; The very sad decision was made to put Arlo into kennels immediately (the male owner suffers with Parkinsons Disease and couldnt risk being toppled over by Arlo). GSDR were made aware of this young boy and our volunteer went to meet him at the kennels. Yes Arlo will need a confident handler and someone who can show him life can be good and he doesnt have to try to be in charge etc. He also needs to learn not to react if he feels frightened or threatened i.e. Arlo came with a figure of 8 head collar and when this was brought out in preparation for fitting around his head, Arlo immediately went into lunge mode and bit the handler. What made Arlo react like this we'll never know, maybe he has bad memories of an ill fitting collar or maybe he was teased with it in the past. Whatever the reason whoever takes Arlo on will need to know he doesnt like a head collar or slip lead! He really is a loving, friendly boy and at only 18 months old should be young enough to educate and train. Arlo has been visited many times in kennels and although wary of you at first meeting he is a very biddable boy and just wants to play and please - he is desperate to find a home where he can be the main focus of attention probably best in a quiet household without too many visitors etc We have had several time wasters visit Arlo at the kennels and promise to come back to adopt etc but never to get in touch again, poor Arlo hasnt put a paw wrong on these visits but on 3 separate occasions he just hasnt found the right home. Suely the next visitor will be the right one for this gorgeous boy!
