REHOMED
SAD ALFIE
Poor, poor Alfie. He came to us in the most dreadful manner. He was a devoted dog who lived for his owner, who sadly died after a long illness. Alfie was his companion, throughout this time, and was faithful to him until the end. When his owner died, his widow felt that she could not cope with a dog herself and Alfie ended up at a local vets to be PTS. Quite rightly the vet felt that this lovely boy should not be treated so cruelly and so he came to GSDR.
Clearly Alfie must be deeply traumatised and it is obvious that he is a sad boy. But he is in a kennels, where he is understood, and the staff play with him to try to resuscitate his love of life and his will to live.
But what Alfie really needs is a forever home and another loving owner who can give him the chance to bond. This yearning is central to the psyche of this loyal breed: Alfie is a fine exemplar of our wonderful breed and he has a deep need to have another chance to be the loyal companion that he was before. In case, anyone wonders if dogs remain loyal to their old owners and refuse to bond, I would only say that this has not been our experience in GSDR. Happily, dogs do move on and our whole rescue is based upon this premise.
We are still assessing Alfie and so cannot be specific as yet about some aspects of his character. We know him to be an active well trained boy. He can be strong on lead but this is to be expected as he has not had much exercise recently. Basically, he only lacks the joie de vivre that would come with a new home.
Will you bring the joy back into sad Alfie's blighted life?
